Design and Calculation of Lightweight Framework House

The master thesis deals with the structural design and analysis of a lightweight timber framework house. This structural system has a stability against lateral forces due to the diaphragm effect generated by the reinforcement panels in walls, floors, and the roof.

A model was created in RFEM to design the linear elements. This model includes the posts of the wall frame, its upper beam as well as the floor and ceiling joists, and the main glued laminated timber girders. After including all the load cases according to the relevant standard, all supports have been designed with RF‑/TIMBER Pro.

Finally, to analyze the entire stability, a model was created where the framework boards are replaced by diagonal bars and the stiffness equivalent to the shear stiffness of the boards is applied. By applying the relevant loads corresponding to the destabilizing actions, such as wind, on the model, a very appropriate representation of what would be the real deformations of the building constructed by the framework panels can be obtained.
