Design of Edge and Inner Beams: Load Introductions and Application Areas

The RX‑TIMBER add-on module has the "Edge Beam" feature. What exactly does this option do?

Answer:

This option allows you to determine whether to design an edge beam or an inner beam arranged between the individual spans. The load application differs as follows:

q_{k} = q_{k'} \cdot a \cdot k

a	Beam or rafter spacing
k	Load factor for continuity effect
q_k'	Surface load in kN/m²

Inner Beam

q_{k} = q_{k'} \cdot (\frac{a}{2} + ü) \cdot k

a	Beam or rafter spacing
ü	Roof overhang on the gable
k	Load factor for continuity effect
q_k'	Surface load in kN/m²
