Assigning Load Cases

In the “Load Cases and Combinations” dialog box → “Construction Stages” tab → “Load Cases” tab, you can assign the relevant “Load Cases” to the construction stages.

Info

The loads of a load case are only taken into account for structural objects that are active in the current construction stage. This allows you to assign a load case multiple times and eliminates the need to define new load cases for each construction stage.

Assigning

When you open the tab for the first time, all load cases that you have defined in the main “Load Cases” tab are listed in Construction Stage CS1. You can now assign the load cases to each construction stage that will have a “newly added” effect on the structural objects in the construction progress from this point on. The corresponding load cases are transferred to the subsequent construction stages.

Info

For example, if you assign the “Self-weight” load case in Construction Stage CS1, you cannot assign this load case to the subsequent construction stages: it has already been transferred. Self-weights of structural objects that you activate in subsequent construction stages are automatically taken into account.

Depending on the load case type, load cases are assigned as “permanent” or “non-permanent.” You can manually adjust this assignment for load cases that were not adapted automatically from the previous construction stage.

Assigned Objects

This table lists all load cases that are effective in the selected construction stage. The following information is displayed:

Status

The status shows whether the load case is “active” in the selected construction stage. If you remove a load case, it is marked as “inactive” for this and subsequent construction stages.

Active

The construction stage in which the load case was first activated is specified.

Inactive

This column appears when you deactivate a load case. The construction stage from which a load case is no longer effective is specified.

Permanent

The check box shows whether a load case is “permanent” or “non-permanent.”

Permanent load cases are stored in the structural system; their influence (stresses and strains) is transferred to the subsequent construction stages. Non-permanent load cases are only considered in the construction stage in which they were assigned.

Factor

In this column, you can specify the load factor with which the loads of a load case are included in the calculation of the construction stage.

Info

Load factors – for example, 1.35 for a permanent load – can also be taken into account at a later stage when you combine construction stages.
