Dragon Boat Race on Silbersee Lake

Our COO Daniel Dlubal took over the patronage for the event "Dragons Among Cities" and thus supports the beginning of a new, important tradition. The dragon boat race takes place on both the German and Czech sides, on alternate years. Together, we want to overcome borders, create friendships, and honor German-Czech togetherness!

Dark wings, carried by the wind and the hot breath of fire that makes the air shimmer: Admittedly, not quite as airy, but it was all the more fiery last Saturday on the waters of Silbersee Lake. The second cross-border dragon boat race took place here.

This tradition originally comes from Chinese regions. You have probably seen it before: the long, open paddle canoes. And heard, of course, because the battle cries and the rhythmic thump of the drummers can often be heard for miles.

The grace of Chinese dragons can be found in every square centimeter of the characteristic stylish painting or carving of the boats. With the decorative dragon head and tail, each of the boats is a true piece of art.

Less spectacular, but no less interesting, is the story behind the motto Dragons Among Cities. The regions of Bavaria and Bohemia have always had a special relationship. They have kept trade with each other, built friendships and families together.

Due to the Iron Curtain, which stretched across Europe for decades, this close relationship between Germany and the Czech Republic broke off. After the dissolution of the USSR and opening of the borders, these relations could be resumed, bit by bit.

The aim of the “Dragons Among Cities” project is to revive German-Czech relations. And what is more suitable for this than a friendly competition? The municipality of Treffelstein, which organized the dragon boat race this year, sent a request for patronage to Dlubal Software.

As an established German-Czech employer, our company is predestined for this role. Moreover, our COO Daniel Dlubal is a child of this German-Czech relationship. After all, his parents both come from the Czech Republic and moved to Germany, where they founded the German-Czech company Dlubal Software.

Daniel was born in Germany and grew up with both cultures. What a great opportunity to support the cross-border work of the Treffelstein community!

On the 17th of June, the time had finally come: The cross-border dragon boat race took place for the second time – and for the first time on German waters. A large number of visitors came to see the spectacle.

Twelve teams from Germany and the Czech Republic competed against each other, including one from Tiefenbach, where Dlubal Software GmbH is headquartered. The battle cries echoed loudly over Lake Silbersee, and set the otherwise calm water in turmoil.

During the competition, the municipality of Treffelstein provided a varied supporting program. Live music groups from Germany and the Czech Republic created a good atmosphere. Physical well-being was taken care of and the children also came into their own. The good weather ensured that “Dragons Among Cities” was a complete success this year as well!

We at Dlubal Software are still very honored to have been able to support this great project. Moreover, we look forward to seeing how this tradition will continue in the years to come.
