Structural Analysis of Lookout Tower

The bachelor thesis presents the structural analysis of an existing steel structure of a lookout tower in the form of a helix. Two three-dimensional models of the structure, that differ in the way the columns are modeled, were created in RFEM 5.25 by Dlubal Software.

The models were subjected to the calculated loads and the results of both models were compared. There is the third three-dimensional model, which includes surface elements. This model was then placed in a wind tunnel using RWIND Simulation.

The bachelor thesis presents the structural analysis of an existing steel structure of a lookout tower on the Kobylí vrch hill near the Kobylí village, the Czech Republic. The structural analysis software RFEM was used to create two different member models, which differ by the column arrangement. In the first model, the columns were simplified, and in the second model, the real geometry was taken into account. The models were subjected to the calculated load – permanent, permanent other, imposed, snow, and wind. Subsequently, the results from both models were compared using the deformations resulting from the individual load cases.

There was also a third model created, where the railing and floor surfaces were also modeled. The columns were modeled as in the second model, that is, with the real geometry. The model with the surfaces was exposed to the wind actions in a wind tunnel. Then, the results from the standard wind load and the wind simulation results were compared. For the comparison, the deformations in the selected node were used again. A part of this thesis is also the visualization of the lookout tower, that is, a 3D model of the lookout tower, and the subsequent modification using the Lumion software.
