Robert Vogl Calculation RFEM RSTAB

Why are the contact stresses of members with elastic foundations given in [kN/m]?

Answer

The contact stresses given in the member results of RFEM are always relative to 1 m of width. Therefore, the contact stresses have the unit [kN/m].

If the foundation has a width different than 1 m, you must divide the contact stress by the width of the foundation. Thus, you obtain the soil pressure in [kN/m²] relative to the foundation width.
