Why are the contact stresses of members with elastic foundations given in [kN/m] in RFEM?
The contact stresses given in the member results of RFEM are always relative to 1 m width.
Therefore, the contact stresses have the unit [kN/m].
If the foundation has a width different than 1 m, you must divide the contact stress by the width of the foundation and obtain the soil pressure in [kN/m²] relative to the foundation width.
