Member Transverse Welds

A locally limited strength reduction in the HAZ due to transverse welds can be taken into account in design according to EN 1999-1-1 as well as ADM 2020. For other design standards, the softening caused by transverse welds is not taken into account.
The arrangement and execution of the transverse welds can be entered by assigning a member transverse weld.

Position and type of weld

Fillet weld and butt weld are available as weld types. The transverse welds can be defined for different positions along the member or member set. For this purpose, the position is specified either by an absolute or relative value. Use the Relative/Absolute Input button to switch between relative and absolute length entry. Multiple definitions are also possible for faster entry of recurring transverse welds at a specific spacing.

For better clarity, you can use the Sort button to sort all defined transverse welds in the table by position in ascending order.

Parameters

In this section, the weld parameters for the selected position are defined. If multiple definition is selected, the number and spacing of the transverse welds are entered here. Here, too, the spacing can be entered as absolute or relative.

For design according to EN 1999-1-1, the weld thickness and welding process must be defined for the weld. The MIG and TIG processes are available for selection. In addition, the number of heat dissipation paths and the temperature must be specified.

Graphical representation

In the Navigator - Display, you can activate the graphical display of the transverse welds. For members and member sets to which a transverse weld is assigned, a cross-section outline is displayed at the positions of the transverse weld.
