Timber Design Add-on

This manual describes the "Timber Design" add-on for the RFEM 6 and RSTAB 9 programs. Since the input and functions of the timber design are identical in both programs, the description of the add-on in this manual only refers to RFEM 6. The explanations for members also apply to the timber design in RSTAB 9.

You can activate or deactivate the design module in the Add-ons tab of the model's Base Data. A green dot in front of the add-on name indicates that you currently have a license for it. An orange or blue dot indicates that the use of the add-on is only available in demo mode or as part of the trial version, and the range of functions is limited.

Info

For the design of cross-laminated timber, the 'Multilayer Surfaces' add-on is required in addition to the 'Timber Design' add-on.

In the Standards I tab of the Base Data, you can select a standard used for the timber design (see Standards I). The input dialog boxes of Timber Design are automatically adjusted to the selected standard.

The currently available design standards and a summary of the functional scope can be found in the product description of Timber Design. The following is a list of the elements that can currently be designed for the respective standard.

Abbreviation Description
XX Design at normal temperature and fire design. Design at normal temperature of members for all allowed cross-section types. Fire design of members only for rectangular and circular cross-sections.
X Design at normal temperature only.

After activating the add-on and selecting the design standards, the user interface in RFEM is extended by some new entries in the navigator, tables, and dialog boxes. They are fully integrated into the RFEM graphical user interface.

For timber design, it is important to select the appropriate standard group of the "Load Case Classification and Combination Wizard." With regard to the serviceability limit state, the standard with the appropriate addition Timber must always be selected.

Info

The creep coefficient kdef for the serviceability limit state design can be adjusted in the National Annex parameters or in the output. This dialog box can be accessed by using the Edit button.
