Design Details

In the result tables of the 'Timber Design' category, you can access the design check details in one of the following ways:

  • Button Design check details in the table toolbar
  • Double-click a result row

The 'Design Check Details' dialog box appears. There, the design check equations together with intermediate results of the design check that apply to the result selected in the table are displayed.

In the central area, you can see the detailed results; in the right column, the design formulas.

Display

In the left section, the parameters of the table row that is selected when opening the dialog are set. This gives you control over the design situation, the governing objects, and the design criterion.

If you want to check the details for a different case constellation, you can adjust the parameters – design situation, load, object, x-location or mesh node, stress point or layer, design check – at any time in the selection lists. There are selection options for all calculated result types. For example, if only members were designed, no options for member sets and surfaces are displayed. Likewise, you cannot switch to the member design checks in the design check details for surfaces. In this case, select the corresponding result table in the program without closing the 'Design Check Details' dialog box.

If you want to check the results of another object, you can select the member or the surface graphically in the work window with the button Single Selection .

For the results of a member set, only the member numbers belonging to this member set are available for selection in the list of members. For the results of a surface set, the list also contains only the related surfaces. When you activate the button Absolute Coordinates from Member Set Start for a member set, the 'Member location x' refers to the beginning of the member set. If it is inactive, the x-location refers to the beginning of the selected member. The members designed without a member set are available in the list if you select the entry '--' for the 'Member Set No.'

For stress points, there is a selection option only for design checks that are related to a stress point (for example, stress analysis). For other design checks such as serviceability limit state, the entry '--' is displayed.

Design Check Details

In the central area, the main input parameters, intermediate values, and design results are listed in a tree structure in the Design Check Details tab (see image Design Check Details of Timber Design). This allows you to trace the performed design checks step by step.

You can also check the intermediate values in the Design Check Formulas on the right. If you click into a row of the 'Design Check Values' category, the corresponding design check formula is highlighted with a border there.

In the 'Design Internal Forces' category, the internal forces used for the design check at this location are specified. If an internal force is marked as 'Negligible', it is below a limit value (see Chapter Members | Basics). It is not considered in the further design check.

Design Checks at Location

In the Design Checks at Location tab, all design checks carried out at the member location x or at the mesh node are listed. You have a quick overview of the utilizations of the different design check types here.

If you click into a row, the corresponding design check formula is displayed on the right. By double-clicking a row, you switch to the 'Design Check Details' tab, where you can check the intermediate values and results of this design check.

Some design checks – for example, stress analyses – are performed at each stress point. Other design checks, such as serviceability limit state design checks, do not require a distinction between the stress points.

Design Check Formulas

In the right section, the main formulas for determining the intermediate values as well as the final calculation of the design criterion are given (see image Design Check Details of Timber Design). If you click a formula, the corresponding row in the 'Design Check Values' category under the design check details is selected. With the button Switch Formula View at the bottom, you can switch between symbolic formulas and numerical values; with the button Summarize Formula View , you can display a shortened version with the design check equation.

You can also use the design check formulas for documentation. In the list button Direct Print , various options for the printout are available for selection (see image Printing Design Check Details).

The button Model View allows you to switch between the formulas and the model view. This way, you can quickly locate the design check location in the model.

'View' and 'Options' Menus

In the 'Design Check Details' dialog, you have the option to open other dialogs for the result evaluation or to control the view via the menu functions. Alternatively, you can use the corresponding buttons. They have the following functions:
