Service Classes

Service classes are used to classify timber components based on the expected loads and the environmental conditions under which they are used. They are important for ensuring the long-term load capacity, durability, and safety of the timber structure.

Info

Depending on the design standard, service classes are also referred to as “moisture classes” or “service conditions.” For simplicity, the manual uses the general term service class.

The classification into service classes allows you to assign strength parameters. By default, all members, member sets, surfaces, and surface sets are assigned to the same Service Class 1. If the service class of the structural component differs, the input for the respective object should be modified.

Info

The definition of a service class only affects the ultimate limit state design. For serviceability limit state design, you can define the creep coefficient in the design standard parameters.
