Materials

Due to the global integration into the calculation of RFEM and RSTAB, the Torsional Warping (7 DOF) add-on can be used regardless of the material. A calculation with warping torsion is usually required when considering steel or aluminum thin-walled sections. Another application is, for example, the determination of the critical load factor for lateral-torsional buckling of high cross-laminated timber beams.

Chapter Materials of the RFEM manual describes the dialog boxes for entering materials.

A calculation with 7 degrees of freedom requires the same material properties as a calculation without 7 degrees of freedom. You can select the material from our extensive Material Library or Create User-Defined Material . For members, only the materials with an isotropic material model are allowed.

Temperature-Dependent Material Behavior

RFEM and RSTAB allow you to define temperature-dependent material properties. You can also take them into account in a calculation with warping torsion, for example, to analyze the stability failure of a steel beam in case of fire exposure. The material properties are applied according to the specified reference temperature and the applied temperature loads.

The Temperature-Dependent section of Chapter Materials in the RFEM manual describes the input of temperature-dependent material properties.

Nonlinear Material Behavior

If the Nonlinear Material Behavior analysis add-on is activated in the Model - Base Data (a license is required, available for RFEM only), it is also possible to consider nonlinear material behavior in the calculation with 7 degrees of freedom.

Further information about the nonlinear material behavior in RFEM can be found in Chapter Nonlinear Material Behavior of the RFEM manual.
