SIDO Madera, a Spanish Dlubal customer, has designed a 21-meter-long (69 ft) bicycle-pedestrian bridge located in Orihuela, Alicante, Spain. It is made of GL24H pine timber, treated by autoclave with copper salts. In addition, hot-dip galvanized S235 steel fasteners were used.
The arched hall includes a 72 ft x 177 ft rectangular floor plan, height of 33 ft and roof radius of 66 ft. The structure houses large offices with additional storage space available.
The station building is an organic shaped steel structure consisting of three connected parts. The left and right building sections are formed by curved Vierendeel truss beams extruding from the main Vierendeel truss down to the reinforced concrete foundation. These main trusses are supported by a row of columns with additional vertical bracing.
In addition to the cruise terminal located at Berth 7, a second cruise ship check-in terminal was constructed in Warnemünde. There are occasions when three ships may call at the same time.
Chase Center Arena is the newest addition to Mission Bay in San Francisco. The state-of-the-art sports and entertainment center features 18,000 seats. The arena will host approximately 200 events annually.
The Funke Media Group, headquartered in Essen, Germany, initiated a new corporate headquarters construction project to accommodate around 1,000 employees at an important traffic junction in the city center. The three-building complex includes a total area of 398,265 ft² in addition to a 300-car parking garage.
The school building addition in Sutz-Lattrigen was built on the existing foundation floor. This foundation was not designed to withstand a second story. Therefore, the loads from the first floor and the additional second story had to be designed as concentrated loads. In order to reduce the weight but also for educational and sustainability reasons, timber was used in the construction of the new building.
The pedestrian bridge over the Taffa River functions not only as a bridge, but includes a garden toolshed and seating along the platform. Additionally, the delicate top truss chords provide a pedestrian railing along the bridge's length.
After more than 2 1/2 years of construction, the world’s highest 3S cableway, "Matterhorn glacier ride", opened at the end of September 2018. The $55 million project was developed to increase passenger capacity to the Klein Matterhorn, at an altitude of 12,802 ft. Additionally, it is now possible to keep the service running when performing maintenance work on the existing tramway.
The continuous casting plant of the JSW ISPAT steelworks in India was extended by an additional level and completed by new plant components and stair towers. Many of the stone monuments in the Angkor archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are currently ruins. The condition of the intact monuments is worsening quickly.
Thus, international experts are looking intensively into the causes of the poor technical condition of these important monuments and trying to find suitable solutions to rescue them. The Czech research team is participating in saving these monuments in Angkor as well, with the five‑year research project "Thermal Imaging and Structural Analysis of Sandstone Monuments in Angkor".
The main objective of the project is represented by an analysis of the stone structures' loading due to environmental temperature changes and the influence of this loading on the static safety of the monuments. In addition to the research performed directly in Angkor, numerical simulations of the behavior of stone structures loaded by external actions, focused on the effect of temperature changes, also forms a part of the project.
The structural engineering software RFEM for FEM analysis and design by Dlubal Software was used to create numerical models and carry out the structural analysis.
