Timber Lattice Bridge for Cycling and Pedestrian Use over Reguerón Irrigation Channel in Orihuela, Spain
Customer Project
SIDO Madera, a Spanish Dlubal customer, has designed a 21-meter-long (69 ft) bicycle-pedestrian bridge located in Orihuela, Alicante, Spain. It is made of GL24H pine timber, treated by autoclave with copper salts. In addition, hot-dip galvanized S235 steel fasteners were used.

Model
The structural system is a Howe truss with diagonals subjected to compression, facilitating the resistance of joints by force transmission in timber-to-timber contact against vertical loads. The top chord is braced against weak axis buckling by a lateral strut attached to the lower deck lattice, forming a rigid transversal frame. In the structural analysis, clearances of the assembly as well as the flexibility of joints were considered by service class 3.
The calculation was carried out in RFEM 5, Dlubal's finite element program for structural analysis; the stability calculation was carried out in the RF-STABILITY add-on module; the design of members was performed in RF-TIMBER Pro, while the joints were designed in RF-JOINTS Timber.
