Design of Earthquake-Resistant Aluminum Stage Structure

The thesis gives an overview of the early uses of aluminum from the structural point of view, and traces the beginning of and the subsequent growth in using of aluminum structures in the entertainment industry. A structure is designed with a higher performance than those on the market, but at the same time, it has advantages in terms of assembly, transportation, use, and aesthetics over the existing ones. Having obtained this result, the structures was imported into a FEA software in order to perform seismic design by choosing three iconic Italian music locations, considering the maximum applicable load.

The results obtained highlight the probability of collapse of such structures in the event of an earthquake, as the Technical Standards for Construction do not require such design checks due to the short duration of the event (less than two years).
