Hinges

The platform girders are pinned to the concrete rib and the frame girder. As there is no rigid connection, the girders cannot transfer any bending moments into the rib and frame.

Select the section no. 3 - IPE 200 in the navigator. All members featuring this section are highlighted in the graphics.

Double-click one of the selected beams. In the 'Edit Members' dialog box, select the Hinges option.

Select the Hinges tab (1). Then click the button to define a new type of hinge (2).

04 Defining New Hinge

In the 'New Member Hinge' dialog box, the moment hinge type (φ_y, φ_z) is preset. No bending moments about the local y- and z-axes of the member will be transferred. Click OK.

05 Allocating Hinge to Member End

To allocate this hinge to the other member end as well, open the list below 'At member end j'. Select the hinge type no. 1.

Click OK to allocate the hinges to both ends of the selected members. The hinges are represented by small circles in the graphics.
