Considered Degrees of Freedom in Eigenvalue Solver for Mcr in RF-/STEEL EC3

Which degrees of freedom are considered in the eigenvalue solver to determine the ideal elastic critical moment (Mcr) in the RF‑/STEEL EC3 add‑on module?

Answer:

For the design using the Equivalent Member Method and General Method, four degrees of freedom are considered in the eigenvalue solver. These are as follows:

  • uY' (displacement from the plane)
  • φX' (rotation about the X'-axis)
  • φZ' (rotation about the Z'-axis)
  • ω (warping)

If the RF‑/STEEL Warping Torsion add-on module is activated, seven degrees of freedom are available:

  • ux (displacement in x)
  • uy (displacement in y)
  • uz (displacement in z)
  • φx (rotation about the x-axis)
  • φy (rotation about the y-axis)
  • φz (rotation about the z-axis)
  • ω (warping)
