Design Specifications

As soon as you activate Steel Design and select a design standard in the model's Base Data (tab Standards I), two additional folders appear in the Navigator - Data:

  • Types for Steel Design
  • Steel Design

The elements of the Types for Steel Design can be assigned to the objects to be designed. This way, you define the essential boundary conditions for the steel design checks. The table manages the types for steel design in the "Structure" category as properties of the model objects. Further explanations can be found in the subchapters of Types for Steel Design.

The objects of the Steel Design category are also accessible in the table. Select "Steel Design" in the list to manage the input data of the steel design in a clearly arranged form. The tables and input dialog boxes of this category are described in detail in Chapter Steel Design.

These tables and objects are also the basis of the documentation that you can prepare in the printout report. The options available for this are described in Chapter Printout Report.

Further settings for the steel design can be defined in various input dialog boxes of the RFEM user interface. For example, you can use members or member sets for the design, insert transverse stiffeners, and define supports for the serviceability limit state design checks in the Edit Member dialog box. An explanation of the essential entries, that are not part of the types for the steel design or the input tables for the steel design, can be found in Chapter Options for Steel Design.
