Member Hinge

A member hinge can be arranged at the start or end of a member to limit the transmission of internal forces.

Entering in RFEM and RSTAB

Member hinges can be entered and defined by using the menu "Insert" → "Types for Members" → "Member Hinges" → "Dialog Box", or in the "Edit Member" dialog box.

You can define hinge conditions for each of the six degrees of freedom. In addition to complete decoupling, a semi-rigid connection using a linear spring or a nonlinear relationship is also possible. The degrees of freedom can refer to the global or local coordinate system. When selecting the global reference coordinate system, you can select special types of hinges, such as the scissor hinge.

Info

In contrast to supports, the degree of freedom is activated for member hinges when the check box is selected (for supports, the degree of freedom is released when the check box is selected).
