A structural model is a model of a structure related to system lines that contains information about the main load-bearing elements. It serves as the idealization of an original physical 3D architectural model with the object and purpose of ensuring the structural design of a structure, including its structural safety and stability.
Simple examples of structural models are:
- Single-span beam
- Cantilever beam
- Continuous beam
A structural model is modeled in the form of one-dimensional (members), two-dimensional (surfaces), or three-dimensional (solids) structural components. Furthermore, the structural model is characterized by supports (single supports, line supports, surface supports) used for load transfer.
