Stress

A stress is a resulting force related to a surface. There is a difference between normal stresses σ (perpendicular to the surface) and shear stresses τ (tangential to the surface).

In RFEM and RSTAB, the corresponding stress is calculated on the basis of the specified loading and a cross-section of a structural component. The stress is often used to design load capacity of a structural component.
