Utilizations on Surfaces

The result tables of the category Utilizations on Surfaces contain the result data for the performed designs with the respective utilizations.

The surface results are sorted in the tabs according to the following criteria:

  • Loads (design situations, load combinations)
  • Surface properties (materials, thicknesses)
  • Objects (surfaces, FE mesh nodes)

Surface No.

For each design criterion, the number of the surface exhibiting the greatest utilization is specified.

Mesh Node / Element No.

The number of the FE mesh node for which the maximum utilization was determined is specified. A second number designates the finite element adjacent to the FE node if deviating internal forces relevant for the design are present there.

Info

If you have selected the 'Calculate results at grid point' option in the Global Settings dialog, the numbers of the grid points are specified in this column. The results then refer to the Surface Grid.

Mesh Node Coordinates

The global X, Y, and Z coordinates of the FE mesh nodes are displayed in the three columns.

Design Situation

This column identifies the numbers of the Design Situations for which the individual utilizations are available.

Load

The numbers of the load or result combinations that are governing for the respective designs are specified.

Layer Side

The stresses are examined for the following locations of the surface cross-section:

  • Top
  • Middle
  • Bottom
Info

If the local z-axis is oriented downwards in the Base Data of the model, the top side is on the surface side in the direction of the negative z-surface axis (−z), and the bottom side accordingly in the direction of the positive z-axis (+z). If the local z-axis is oriented upwards, this definition is reversed.

You can show and hide the surface axes via the Surface Local Axis Systems On/Off entry in the surface shortcut menu. Alternatively, use the 'Navigator - Display' (Model → Basic Objects → Surfaces → Surface Axis Systems x,y,z).

Design Criterion

This column indicates the design conditions according to the Standard. The degree of the respective utilization is expressed by the length of the colored bar.

Design Type

Each design is identified by a code with a number. For example, the designs of the ultimate limit state according to Eurocode have the code 'UL', and the designs of the serviceability limit state have the code 'SE'. The design type is explained in the Description column.

Design Formula

You can activate this column in the Result Table Manager. It specifies the standard equations according to which the designs are performed.

Description

Each design is explained by a short description referencing the chapter in the standard.

Tip

You can display the Design Details for a specific utilization via the Design check details button or by double-clicking the row.

Filtering Results

The chapter Utilizations on Members describes how you can filter the results by limit state and by utilization.
