The Inserted Member component allows you to add a member to the connection model that is taken into account in the joint design, but not in the model. The connection to the other members is achieved by welds and fasteners.
To customize an inserted member, you can use the Member Section and Member Editor components. In addition, it is possible to add reinforcement elements, such as a stiffener or a taper to the inserted member.
Element
In this category, you need to specify the properties of the member. Select the relevant material from the defined materials or create a new material using the
button. Then, define the cross-section. You can also use the
button in the input box to select the cross-section from a library.
In the “Length” input box, specify how long the inserted member should be. In the case of a substitution, this value determines by how much the reference member is shortened.
There are two options for the “Definition type” in the list you can select from:
- Position: You can freely insert a new member.
- Substitution: You can replace part of an existing member.
You can then define the parameters in the next category.
Position
You can freely insert a member by defining its position.
Define the origin of the member. In addition to members, the list of reference objects also includes member plates, plates, and other components to select. Specify how the member is aligned. You can then use the displacement vectors and rotation angles to precisely describe its location.
Substitution
You can cut off a member at the end and replace it by a fictitious member with a different cross-section.
Select a "Reference member" from the list: This is the member you want to shorten. The "Axial displacement" xref describes the length by which the inserted member recedes from the end node of the member.
You can describe the location and displacement in the direction of the y and z axes using the corresponding selection lists and values. The axes refer to the coordinate system of the members, which you can display in the graphic on the right using the
button.
If there is a "Gap" between the inserted member and the original, specify its width as g. The original member will then be shortened by this value.
