Lines / Members Divide

To divide a line or an element, right-click the object. In the context menu, select one of the functions for Divide Line or Divide Element.

Tip

You can also divide lines or elements using the buttons Split line using the mouse and Divide Line into n Intermediate Nodes and Divide Line into Distance or Split element with the mouse and Divide element using N intermediate points and Divide element by offset in the CAD toolbar.

Division by Intermediate Points

With this function, you divide the line or the element into equal segments.

Number

Enter the 'Number of Intermediate Points' n for the division. As shown in the figure above, the line is divided at its third points, for example, with two intermediate points.

Options

The 'Create Points of Type On Line without Dividing the Line' check box is deactivated by default. When the line is divided, new lines are created. If you check the box, the line remains as a whole. In this case, the division is carried out by intermediate points of the 'Points on Line' type (see chapter Points ).

If you check the 'Individual Numbering' check box, you can influence the numbering of the new objects in the Numbering tab.

Numbering

The Numbering tab is displayed if the Individual Numbering check box is selected in the 'Base' tab.

Check in the 'Individual' column which object you want to assign a specific numbering to. In the '1st No.' column, you can then enter the starting number for the new objects. Further objects of this category are numbered in ascending order from this number.

Division by Distance

With this function, you divide the line or the element at a specific point.

Distance between New Point and Line Start or Line End

Specify the distance from the start or end point at which the line or the element is to be divided. You can enter the value as a length or relative value. The four input fields are interactive.

If the distance refers to a projected length, specify the projection in the 'Reference Length' section.

Info

The line or element direction is decisive for the division distance. It is shown on the selected object.

Reference Length

Usually, the division distance refers to the 'Actual Length' of the line or element. If this is not the case, select the relevant 'Projection in Direction' of an axis of the specified coordinate system. In the 'Distance' section, you can then enter the corresponding division specifications.

Options

The 'Create Points of Type On Line without Dividing the Line' check box controls whether new objects are created when the line is divided (see section Options).

If you check the 'Individual Numbering' check box, you can influence the numbering of the new objects (see tab Numbering).
