Extend or trim lines/elements

You can adjust the length of a line or an element using a dialog box. This not only allows you to change the length in general, but also to continue the line or element to another object.
To do this, right-click the line or element to open the object context menu. There you select the function Extend/Trim Line or Extend/Trim Element. Alternatively, you can call up the function for extending/trimming lines/elements in the Tools menu.

The following options are available in the 'Extend/trim with' list:

Length: Changes the total length of the line or element to the user-defined dimension.
Offset: Extends/shortens one or both sides of the line or element by the offset dimension Δ. A negative value shortens the side(s).
To the next element/line: Causes an extension to the closest element or line that forms an intersection with the straight line of the element or line.
To the selected element: Extends the line or element to another element, the number of which can be specified or defined graphically with the button. The plumb point on the element is defined by the ' distance '.
To the selected line: Extends the line or the element to another line, the number of which can be specified or defined graphically with the button. The plumb point on the line is defined by the ' distance '.
To place: Extends the line or element to any point, the coordinates of which can be specified or defined graphically with the button.
To the selected point: Extends the line or element to a point, the number of which can be specified or defined graphically with the button.

Specify in the list 'Line side to be modified' or 'Element side to be modified' in which direction the length change is to be made:

Both: results in an adjustment on both sides. Either the total length L is related to the center of the line or element, or the line or element is extended on both sides by the offset Δ - or up to the next two lines or elements.
Start: The length of the line or the element is only adjusted on the side of the starting point.
End: The length of the line or the element is only adjusted on the side of the end point.

Tip

The line or element orientations are displayed in the model graphic.

Activation of Standards for Load Wizards

The effects due to snow load are described in the American standard ASCE/SEI 7-16 and in Eurocode 1, Parts 1 through 3. These standards are implemented in the new RFEM 6 program and the Snow Load Wizard, which serves to facilitate the application of snow loads. In addition to this, the most recent generation of the program allows the construction site to be specified on a digital map, thus allowing the snow load zone to be imported automatically. These data are, in turn, used by the Load Wizard to simulate the effects due to the snow load.

The fatigue design according to EN 1992-1-1 must be performed for the structural components subjected to large stress ranges and/or many load changes. In this case, the design checks for the concrete and the reinforcement are performed separately. There are two alternative design methods available.

Using an example of a steel fiber-reinforced concrete slab, this article describes how the use of different integration methods and of a different number of integration points affects the calculation result.

In order to correctly design a downstand beam or a T-beam in RFEM 6 using the Concrete Design add-on, it is essential to determine the flange widths for the rib members. This article describes the input options for a two-span beam and the calculation of the flange dimensions according to EN 1992-1-1.

Do you have individual column sections and angled wall geometries, and need punching shear design for them?

No problem. In RFEM 6, you can perform punching shear design not only for rectangular and circular sections, but for any cross-section shape.

Feature 002691 | Simplified Fire Resistance Design for Columns and Beams According to EN 1992-1-2, Sections 5.3.2 and 5.6

The Concrete Design add-on provides you with the option to perform the simplified fire resistance design according to EN 1992‑1‑2 for columns (Section 5.3.2) and beams (Section 5.6).

The following design checks are available for the simplified fire resistance design:

Columns: Minimum cross-sectional dimensions for rectangular and circular sections according to Table 5.2a as well as Equation 5.7 for calculating time of fire exposure
Beams: Minimum dimensions and center distances according to Table 5.5 and Table 5.6

You can determine the internal forces for the fire resistance design according to two methods.

1 Here, the internal forces of the accidental design situation are included directly into the design.
2 The internal forces of the design at normal temperature are reduced by the factor Eta,fi (ηfi), then used in the fire resistance design.

Furthermore, it is possible to modify the axis distance according to Eq. 5.5.

Feature 002670 | Fatigue Design According to EN 1992-1-1, Chapter 6.8

With the Concrete Design add-on, you can perform the fatigue design of members and surfaces according to EN 1992‑1‑1, Chapter 6.8.

For the fatigue design, you can optionally select two methods or design levels in the design configurations:

Design Level 1: Simplified design according to 6.8.6 and 6.8.7(2): The simplified design is performed for frequent action combinations according to EN 1992‑1‑1, Chapter 6.8.6 (2), and EN 1990, Eq. (6.15b) with the traffic loads relevant in the serviceability state. A maximum stress range according to 6.8.6 is designed for the reinforcing steel. The concrete compressive stress is determined by means of the upper and lower allowable stress according to 6.8.7(2).
Design Level 2: Design of damage equivalent stress acc. to 6.8.5 and 6.8.7(1) (simplified fatigue design): The design using damage equivalent stress ranges is performed for the fatigue combination according to EN 1992‑1‑1, Chapter 6.8.3, Eq. (6.69) with the specifically defined cyclic action Q_fat.
