The Base tab manages the fundamental model parameters.
Model
The 'Model name' must be specified, as it is also the file name of the model. The 'Model description', on the other hand, is optional. You can use it to briefly describe the model. The description appears in the printout report, but otherwise – like the description of the project – has no further function.
Project
In the 'Project name' list, select the project folder where the model is to be created. Use the
button to create a new project. The 'Create New Project' dialog box appears for entering the corresponding data.
The
button opens the Dlubal Center. There, you can set another project as current (see the chapter
Models
).
For your information, the 'Project description' and the 'Folder' of the selected project are displayed.
Analysis
Activate the check boxes of the design methods to be used for the calculation. The following methods are available:
- Analysis of thin-walled structures
- Finite element analysis
You can select one or both design methods simultaneously.
Activate the 'Plastic section resistance | simplex method' check box to analyze the plastic cross-section resistance, accounting for the interaction of internal forces.
Activate the 'Effective cross-section / steel cross-section / aluminum cross-section' check box to determine the effective cross-section according to the relevant standards. You can select one of the following standards:
- EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1993-1-5
- EN 1993-1-3 (cold-formed)
- EN 1999-1-1 (Aluminum)
You can make further detail settings in the Settings and Options tab.
Options
In this section, you define the basic settings for the calculation.
Definition of Material
This check box controls whether a material input is required for the cross-section. This check box must be activated for the calculation of the effective cross-section or the definition of concrete reinforcement.
Manual Input of Single Panels
To determine the effective cross-section according to EN 1993-1-1 in conjunction with EN 1993-1-5, EN 1993-1-3, or EN 1999-1-1, the single panels of the cross-section must be defined. These are usually derived automatically from the cross-section geometry. By activating the 'Enable manual input of single panels' option, you can customize the single panels. Edit them in the 'Single Panels' table of the 'Special Objects' or via the 'Edit Single Panel' and 'New Single Panel' dialog boxes.
US Notation for Cross-Section Properties
Activate the check box to display the symbols for cross-section properties according to the US convention.
Concrete Reinforcement
This check box controls whether concrete reinforcement can be defined.
Stress Smoothing to Avoid Singularities
Activate the check box for smoothing stress peaks.
Comment
Here, you can enter a text to add a remark to the model. This comment also appears in the printout report.
