Straight single lines can be combined into a polyline at a later stage. To do this, select the Join Lines function in the menu Tools → Modify Lines. Then, select the desired lines and press Enter to confirm.
You can also select the lines you want to join first and then use the Join Lines function. The lines you have selected will then be joined automatically.
