Intersections

If surfaces intersect and internal forces are transferred on the contact points, it is necessary to create an intersection. This prevents the creation of independent, unconnected subsystems.

Info

Each time the model is modified, RFEM has to recalculate the intersection. When complex models are designed, recalculating data is very time-consuming for graphics.

Intersection of Two Objects

Enter the numbers of the two surfaces that intersect. You can also use the Select Two button to determine the surfaces graphically.

Intersections (of possibly more than two surfaces) can be created quickly in the graphics: Select the relevant surfaces by drawing a window, or by multiple selection while holding down the Ctrl key. Then, use the function Surface → Create Intersection in the shortcut menu of the selected objects.

Info

Use the shortcut menu functions "Divide by Intersection" and "Divide by Intersection and Create Openings" to divide the initial surfaces on the cutting lines and model the cut surface as an opening. New surfaces are created that can be edited or deleted as independent objects.

Generated Objects

When creating an intersection, new nodes, lines, and possibly members and surfaces are created that belong to both surfaces.

Intersection lines are marked with a lock symbol in the "Lines" table. The lock indicates that these lines are generated lines. The "Edit Line" dialog box is also available for these lines so that you can assign member or support properties.
