Surface mesh refinements affect the generation of the FE mesh. This way, you can achieve an adjusted discretization for surfaces with small dimensions. Conversely, for surfaces that play a minor role in the analysis, you can define a "refinement" with a larger mesh size than the globally targeted FE mesh length.

Enter the 'Target FE length'. The length 'LFE' can be larger or smaller than the globally applied value of the Mesh Settings dialog box.
