Generate solid from member

Sometimes, it is necessary to perform specific analyses for massive cross-sections of a frame structure, for example, to investigate foundations or bored piles in a solid model. To do this, you can model the member cross-section via surfaces as a solid, but this involves some effort. The Generate Solid from Member function simplifies the task of representing a 1D member element using 3D solid elements.

Right-click the member to open its shortcut menu. There, select the Generate Solid from Member function under the Members entry.

Important

Note the following for this function:

  • The model type must be defined as 3D.
  • Decomposition is only possible for massive cross-sections. For a thin-walled section, you can only use the Decompose Member into Surfaces function.
  • An RSECTION profile cannot be converted, even if it represents a solid cross-section.

A solid is created from the geometry of the cross-section and the member, with its surfaces having the stiffness type 'Without Thickness'. The information about the structural object 'Member' is lost during the conversion.

Info

The decomposition is currently performed using the program’s default settings. The option for user-defined specifications is in progress.
