Layer make it possible to structure objects according to certain criteria for the display. They are comparable to the functions of CAD programs, with which individual layers ("planes") in the drawing can be shown and hidden. The objects that can be managed in layers include not only model objects such as nodes, members, or surfaces, but also guide objects such as dimensionings, comments, or CAD lines.
A layer can be assigned specific display properties such as color or line design.
