Results by Surface

You can display the results for surfaces graphically via the Navigator category Surfaces. The numerical surface results can be found in the table categories Results by Surfaces in Grid Points and Results by Surfaces in Mesh Nodes.

FE Mesh Nodes and Grid Points

The graphical results are based on the results in the FE mesh nodes. In addition to these FE node results, the interpolated values in the grid points defined for each surface are also available in the tables (see the chapter Surfaces). This grid represents an output in result points with regular distances independent of the FE mesh.

Important

For small surfaces, the default mesh size of the grid of 0.5 m can result in only a few grid points. In this case, adjust the number or the distance of the grid points to the surface size.

The result values of the grid points can also be displayed in the graphic. This option is described in the chapter Result Values on Surfaces.

If you change the surface grid, RFEM generates the grid values immediately from the result values of the FE nodes. No recalculation is required.

Layer Side

The Layer Side navigator control panel allows you to quickly switch between the results of the top and bottom sides, as well as the surface centers.

Thus, you can check, for example, the stresses and strains occurring on the sides of surfaces subjected to bending. The surface internal forces, on the other hand, are always related to the results of the surface centers from the FE analysis (plane of the wireframe model).

If the 'Layer Side' control panel is deactivated, you can select the results of the surface sides via the control panels of the stresses and strains (σx+, σx-, εx+, εx-, etc.).

Top / Bottom

If the local z-axis is oriented downwards in the Base Data of Model, the top side is on the surface side in the direction of the negative z-surface axis (−z), the bottom side accordingly in the direction of the positive z-axis (+z). If the local z-axis is oriented upwards, this definition is reversed.

Tip

You can show and hide the surface axes via the Local Axis Systems of Surfaces On/Off entry in the surface shortcut menu. Alternatively, use the 'Navigator - Display' (Model → Base Objects → Surfaces → Surface Axis Systems x, y, z).
