Graphics Control

Mouse

The mouse functions correspond to the Windows standards.

Left Mouse Button

When you click a structural or load object with the left mouse button, you select it. A double-click opens the editing dialog box of the object. You can use this functionality not only for the graphical objects in the work window, but also for the object entries in the Navigator.

If you hold down the Ctrl key, you can select several objects one after the other by clicking them. A plus symbol is displayed on the mouse pointer. If you hold down the Shift key, on the other hand, you can remove an object from the selection. A minus symbol appears on the mouse pointer accordingly.

Tip

You can move selected objects in the graphic by drag-and-drop, or copy them by holding down the Ctrl key.

Right Mouse Button

When you click an object with the right mouse button, you open its shortcut menu. It provides object-related commands and functions (see image Shortcut menu of a node). Shortcut menus are available not only in the graphic, but also in the Navigator and in the tables.

With the held down right mouse button, you can open a zoom window to enlarge a section. This corresponds to the 'Zoom with window' function of RFEM 5.

Scroll Wheel

When you turn the mouse scroll wheel, you enlarge or reduce the displayed model. The current mouse pointer position serves as the center of the zoom area. This also works with the "touchpad" by moving two fingers apart or together, or moving two adjacent fingers up or down.

With the pressed scroll wheel, you can move the model display. If you additionally hold down the Ctrl key while doing so, you can rotate the view. Rotating is also possible with the scroll wheel and the pressed right mouse button.

Tip

The view can also be rotated around a specific node: Select the node and then hold down the Alt key. You can now rotate the model around the node with the pressed scroll wheel.

ViewCube

In the upper right corner of the workspace, you see a cube, the so-called ViewCube. When you click the cube or rotate it (hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse pointer), you can control the view.

Tip

Click the cube with the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) to restore the isometric standard view.

Buttons for Views

The functions in the ViewSelect View menu and the assigned buttons in the toolbar allow you to quickly switch between the standard views.

The buttons are assigned with the following functions:

Button Function
Show Whole Model Cancels the zoomed view and displays the entire model
Axonometric View Displays the model in isometric view
View in Viewpoint Displays the model from the angle of the user-defined Viewpoint
Perspective Displays the model in perspective view
X View Displays the model view in X-direction
View Opposite to Y Direction Displays the model view opposite to the Y-direction
View in Z Displays the model view in Z-direction
View Opposite to X Direction Displays the model view opposite to the X-direction

Keyboard Shortcuts

You can also control the graphic using the keyboard. The shortcuts are stored in the 'Customize' dialog box, which you can open via the ViewCustomize Menus and Toolbars menu. Select the View category there.

To assign a keyboard shortcut individually, double-click the command. In the 'Assign Keyboard Shortcut' dialog box, you can then define the key combination.

You can restore the default keyboard shortcuts with the Reset to Default Values button.

Rendering

There are various options for displaying the model graphically. You can quickly switch between three elementary display types using the list button.

The functions of the buttons are as follows:

Button Function
Wireframe Model Represents a line model, in which surfaces are indicated by dashed lines within the boundary lines
Transparent Model Displays the rendered model in transparent view with member cross-sections and surfaces without thickness
Solid Model Displays the rendered model as a solid model with filled cross-sections and surfaces, where no "reaching through" for selecting is possible

You can make detailed settings for the display of structural objects and loads in the Navigator - Display under the Rendering category.
